Patrice Anderson Assistant Professor of Graphic Design

Patrice Anderson

Graphic DesignJacksonville State UniversityTeaching since 2010

I teach graphic design, UI/UX, motion, and interactive systems at Jacksonville State University.

My work examines how typography, layout, and visual systems behave when they move beyond the page or screen, into environments that respond to the people inside them.

I also run a design practice, most recently brand identity for the Paint Rock Research Center, and co-host The Strange South, a podcast about Southern folklore.

Pulse

Felt: An Understory

Heart rate from every visitor drives a live projection built from filmed watercolor blooms. When one person's rate rises, the other blooms drift toward theirs and return.

Speech

Heard: Live Typologies

Speech recognition drives typography that appears, moves and dissolves in response to what is said in the room.

Faculty Exhibition · 2025

Face

Seen: Emotional Detection

A live camera reads faces and expression, and an emotion vocabulary radiates outward from each person on thin white rules.
