Research
Live systems · Typography · Projection
My research asks what happens to typography and layout when they stop being fixed. A printed page holds still. A projection in a room with people in it does not, and the design problem changes once the composition is partly authored by whoever is standing there.
The three live systems are the working method. Each takes one channel of human input, speech, facial expression, or heart rate, and returns it as generative typography and projection. Together they test the same question against three different signals.
Current
Multisensory systems in graphic design. Presented at SECAC 2026 in Winston-Salem as Stop Designing Artifacts: Multisensory Systems in Graphic Design. The argument is that design education still teaches the artifact when the field increasingly produces systems that respond.
Immersive and projection practice. An ongoing survey of immersive venues and studios, read against the distinction between immersive as a medium and immersive as marketing.
Earlier
Mentorship and access. My MFA thesis, Vlogging as Mentorship, asked whether vlogging could work as service design to mentor sixteen to eighteen year old women in rural communities without arts education. It took its starting point from Michael Bierut's advice to hijack your mentors, meaning that anyone you pay attention to can become one without knowing it.
Community and entrepreneurship. Twenty-one years running Cymbalholic, an international drummers' community, and work on design entrepreneurship for students in places where the arts are not well funded.
